About the Dream Dictionary
Our mission
The Dream Dictionary is an independent editorial resource devoted to the symbolic, psychoanalytic and cultural interpretation of dreams. Our mission: to offer sourced, multi-perspective and honest analyses, accessible to everyone.
What we are not
This site offers avenues for symbolic and cultural reflection. It is in no way medical, psychological or psychiatric advice. Dream interpretation remains a subjective practice, inherited from diverse psychoanalytic, cultural and spiritual traditions — not an exact science.
If you are going through mental-health difficulties, we encourage you to consult a qualified professional.
Our editorial approach
Each symbol is analysed through at least three distinct perspectives: psychoanalytic (Freud, Jung), traditional/oneirocritic, and cultural/religious where relevant. We systematically cite our sources (reference works, identified traditions). No page is published without human editorial review.
See our Methodology page to understand in detail how we build each entry.
The team
This project is driven by a team passionate about symbolic psychology, cultural anthropology and the history of religions. Meet our lead editor →
